About the Department

Soil & Water Conservation plantaition crops Range, Lumshnong situated under East Jaintia Hills District which falls under the purview of the Divsional Soil & Water Conservation Office, Plantation Crops Division, Jowai used to provide grant in aid to the farmers living in that area, through State Scheme available in the Department for both departmental and subsidy schemes by planting different types of crops like Rubber tree, citrus fruits, Arecanut, Black Pepper etc., according to the condition and the climate of the places which are suitable for such plants. The Soil & Water Conservation Plantation Crops Range, Lumshnong area covered the two Blocks namely, Khliehriat Block and Saipung Block. The area which falls under these jurisdiction where the mentioned crops are suitable, the Department provided helps to them by means of grant in aid. The Department send the field staff to survey the area or the plot of land of the selected beneficiaries. The plot should not be less than 1 hectare, finding that the place is suitable an agreement is sign between the beneficiaries and the Department. The agreement for Rubber is 7(seven) years and for others 4(four) to 5 (Five) years. During the period of agreement, the Department look after the plantation. After the expiry of the agreement the plantation is handed over to the owner (beneficiaries).

Schemes

  1. Departmental Scheme – Office of the Soil & Water Conservation Plantation Crops provides grant in aid to the beneficiaries for planting of Rubber and Citrus fruits. An agreement is signed between the party of the office which is 7(seven) years for Rubber and 5(five) years for citrus. The Department have to look after the plantation within the period of agreement. After expiry of agreement, the plantation is handed over to the beneficiaries.
  2. Subsidy Scheme – The office of the Soil & Water Conservation Plantation Crops Range, Lumshnong use to provide grant in aid to the selected farmers living under in Khliehriat and Saipung Blocks by providing the farmers the seedlings like Black Pepper, Citrus and Arecanut. Half of the amount is spend by the Department and the other half is to be spent by the farmers themselves for maintenance of the plantation. The Department provides help for the farmer for about 3 years. Thereafter the plantation is handed over to the owner.
